How to administer a DIY Auctions website?

Only ‘site administrators’ can administer a DIY Auctions website.

To become a site administrator, the user needs to have access to the WordPress Admin Console of the website. Once in the admin console, select ‘Settings‘ : ‘DIY Auctions Site Administrator‘. Click on the ‘Register!‘ button.

You will be asked to login into your social network and to grant some permissions to the DIY Auctions application. Make sure that you grant them all. The user account you have register into the social network with will be granted the ‘Site Administrator‘ role. To add more site administrators, repeat the procedure with different social network user accounts.

The ‘Site Admin‘ menu of the DIY Auctions website enables a site administrator to administer the website. The menu can be accessed using the ‘Site Admin‘ button near the top of most website pages (the button is visible only if the user is logged in and is a site administrator). The folowing admin tasks are worth mentioning:

  • Setting up the currency for the website (CAD vs. USD – the default is CAD),
  • Setting up the default timezone for the website (the default is EASTERN); This is in case that the local timezone of the website visitor cannot be detected,
  • Putting the website in and out of the test mode (by default the test mode is on); This allows for initial testing of the website (posting auctions, bidding…) following the deployment,
  • Managing bidding process i.e. stopping and resuming the bidding on the website (by default the bidding is in progress); This is in case the website or the social network are experiencing technical difficulties,
  • Selecting auction posting mode i.e. how the auctions are posted on the social network pages (as a photo vs. as a link – the default is photo); Try them both and decide,
  • Managing social network pages that the auctions can be posted on.
